Sunshine, school holidays – and water fun for the whole family: on board A‑ROSA SENA, little water lovers aged 4 and up can now can now learn to swim in a relaxed and cheerful holiday atmosphere. As the very first river cruise line to offer a professional children's swim school, where children can even get certificates*! We’ve brought the poolside lessons right on board – so your holiday becomes the perfect time to dive in.
No more rushing to swim class after school or trying to squeeze lessons into your busy schedule. On board our A‑ROSA SENA, the swim coach comes to you – while you unwind with a book, a coffee or simply the view from the sun deck.
Whether your child is dipping their toes in for the very first time or already paddling around with some confidence, our carefully designed courses (in cooperation with the Swim School Flipper) provide a safe, supportive and fun learning environment. Beginners learn the basics step by step, while more experienced swimmers can refine their technique and build stamina – all under the guidance of trained professionals who know how to make swimming fun.
Important: Spaces are limited, so we recommend booking your child’s course before your cruise. Last-minute registrations on board are only possible if places are still available.
SWIMMING SCHOOL
Swimming lessons for children aged 4 and above:
- Goals according to ability level (ability levels are assessed by the swimming instructor on site):
- Moving confidently and freely in the water and learning first swimming skills and techniques
- Improving basic skills, swimming techniques and stamina
- Improving swimming techniques and stamina, as well as gaining a thorough understanding of swimming rules
- Private lessons: 1 swimming instructor – 1 child
- 6 swimming lessons per cruise
- Duration of each lesson: approx. 30 minutes
- Takes place at the pool on the A‑ROSA SENA sun deck
- Lessons are taught by a qualified swimming instructor by the swimming school Flipper
- Certification: Children with the required experience can take the exam for the Seahorse Badge or Pirate Badge; upon passing, the swimming school will award the certificate or badge.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
- We recommend that you book the swim course in advance.
- Each participant must be in good physical health at the start of the course.
- Participating children must not have any serious illnesses (e.g. organ damage, contagious diseases) that would prevent them from attending the course**.
- In order for your child to take part in the swim course, you must first sign the consent form, which includes the terms and conditions. You can easily download the document online.
TIP: Children aged 15 and under travel for free in a family cabin*** (when accompanied by two supervising adults; only applies to the cruise fare).
*While the swimming qualification obtained upon completion of the course is officially recognized in Germany, it may not hold direct recognition in other countries. It's recommended to verify its equivalence or recognition with the relevant swimming authorities in the desired country.
**Serious illnesses in the above sense primarily include cardiovascular diseases, asthma or asthmatic bronchitis, middle ear infections and sinusitis, serious skin conditions (eczema, fungal skin infections) and a tendency to have seizures.
***Children up to and including 15 years of age travel free of charge when accompanied by at least one (two in Cat. G) supervising adult on Deck 1. From Deck 2 children receive a 30 % discount. Furthermore, children up to 7 years of age accompanied by 2 supervising adults can use a sofa bed free of charge on the A‑ROSA SENA in categories B - D. On the A‑ROSA ALVA, A‑ROSA ALEA & A‑ROSA CLEA children accompanied by at least one supervising adult receive a 30 % discount. The children’s discount is only valid for the cruise itself. Children aged 4 years and older can participate in our swimming school on board A‑ROSA SENA. It is important that your child is physically healthy and ready to be in the water unaccompanied.
Swimming lessons for children of various ability levels are offered on board the A-ROSA SENA. Children who have never attended a swimming lesson before, as well as those who have some experience or wish to earn the Seahorse or Pirate badge, are welcome to take part in the lessons.
Six lessons are offered per cruise, all under the guidance of a qualified swimming instructor from the Swimming School Flipper. The lessons take place in the pool on the sun deck and take place in one-to-one lessons.
Yes, swimming lessons take place on every day of the cruise, except on the day of arrival and departure. Each day, there is usually one course. The pool on board the A‑ROSA SENA is exclusively reserved for the swimming school during this time.
Times are coordinated with the itinerary. There is generally still plenty of time left for families to explore the cities along the route.
Courses take place in one-to-one lessons, which ensures focused and individual attention for each child.
